1. Always start with a plan! ✍🏻

Like everything in life it’s important to plan things out and it’s no different when it comes to business. It doesn’t cost anything to create a Facebook Page for your business, or start posting on Instagram, or create a presence on Twitter. But it does have a massive impact on your business. 

But before we jump into that first, remember: every good business strategy starts with a good plan. Yes, you can use social tools for free. But the time and effort involved still represent an investment in your business. Without a plan, you have no clear goal for what you’re trying to achieve. That means there’s no way to know if you’re getting a return on that investment.

Set a goal

Settings goals and something to achieve is the best way of staying motivated and inspired in business. Make sure you base your goals on metrics that will have a real impact on your business for example; if you want to generate more leads to your business or attract more likes to your Facebook page. Your goals should state your budget, your current metrics and analytics. Which should then be compared to the goals you wish to achieve in the future.

Do you know how your competitors are doing on social media? If you don't then you should! But how do you find out this private and exclusive information? Well it's not private at all in fact. Getting inspired

So you've had a look at what your competitors are up to. Now its time to get inspired by what you enjoy. Its important to find out exactly what your client base would want first and foremost. Then, take that information and find something that inspires you, for example helping a local community.

Create a social media calendar

A social media calendar helps you post the right content to the right social channels at the right time. It should include a plan for your content mix. Try starting with the 80-20 rule. Use 80% of your content to inform, educate, or entertain your audience. Use the other 20% to promote your brand or sell your products.

Its important, first and foremost, to understand that every business has both pros and cons to advertising on different platforms. To put it simply, this is because different ages, spend different amounts of time, on different platforms.

Just like me, your first thought might be to exclude certain generations from targeted ads but this is not the case. There is a huge potential market being missed by thousands of people a day. People think if you’re targeting Gen Z, you should skip Facebook and focus on Instagram and TikTok. However, this isn’t always true, as you can see the graph shows that nearly a quarter of Facebook users are between the ages of 18 to 24. It’s simple. Know which platform your potential market is on and target your ads towards them.

3. Pay attention to trends 📈

By no means are we saying that you need to be looking at every trend or meme that’s about. But what we are saying is that it’s important to know exactly what trends will or can affect your business in a positive way.

The world of social media is ever changing, and its important to stay on top of it in your marketing. We’re not saying you have to pay attention to every trending topic and meme out there, but staying aware of what’s out there will help you to curate current, topical content that people want to see. Keep it relevant to your business, target audience and location to ensure your message is seen. A good place to start is by following similar businesses and ‘hashtags’ to see what others are posting.
